Foreign funds resort to heavy selling in equities


Foreign
institutional investors (FIIs) sold shares worth a net Rs 1.736.80
crore on Friday, 5 September 2008, as against their outflow of Rs
399.10 crore on Thursday, 4 September 2008.

FII outflow of Rs
1,736.80 crore on 5 September 2008 was a result of gross purchases Rs
1713.90 crore and gross sales Rs 3450.70 crore. The 30-share BSE Sensex
fell 415.27 points or 2.79% to 14,483.83 points on that day.

FII
outflow in September 2008 totaled Rs 1227.20 (till 5 September 2008).
FII outflow reached Rs 29,740.90 crore in calendar 2008, so far, till 5
September 2008.

There are a total of 1487 foreign funds registered with the Securities & Exchange Board of India (Sebi).
