FIIs make heavy purchases of equity


Foreign
institutional investors (FIIs) buying shares worth a net Rs 1,337.40
crore on Tuesday, 2 September 2008, as against their outflow of Rs
171.70 crore on Monday, 1 September 2008.

FII inflow of Rs
1,337.40 crore on 2 September 2008 was a result of gross purchases Rs
2844.10 crore and gross sales Rs 1,506.70 crore. BSE Sensex jumped
551.35 points or 3.80% to 15,049.86 points on that day.

FII outflow reached Rs 27,604 crore in calendar 2008, so far, till 2 September 2008.

There are a total of 1483 foreign funds registered with the Securities & Exchange Board of India (Sebi).
