Inflation at 7.33% in year through 12 April 2008

FM expects inflation to moderate

Finance minister P Chidambaram today said the headline inflation rate will moderate over time as the impact of fiscal and monetary measures kick in. He said inflation was being largely driven by high international commodity and food prices.

The finance minister also said steps have been taken within the power of the government to rein in inflation and further measures would be taken.

Inflation at 7.33% in year through 12 April 2008

The wholesale price index rose 7.33% in the year through 12 April 2008, accelerating from the previous week's annual rise of 7.14%, government data showed on Friday, 25 April 2008. The annual inflation rate was 6.34% during the corresponding week of the previous year.
